BSF jawans were patrolling the border outpost near Dobarpara on Thursday night. At that time, they saw a motorbike rider along the international border. The man was detained and searched. Two large bags filled with hilsa were recovered.
According to the BSF, he got hilsa from a person in Bangladesh. It was supposed to be handed over to a person from Bangaon. The interrogation revealed that the man, originally from Gaighata, was working in a pipe factory in Gujarat. Forced to return home in lockdown. But he got involved in the smuggling ring two or three months ago without getting any job in his own state. The BSF handed him over to the police for investigation.
A few days ago, Bangladesh sent hilsa to India. However, the taste of Bengalis has remained elusive. As a result, smuggling of hilsa to Bengal is always happening. During a special search operation in Ghazaldoba on Wednesday, the BSF recovered 15 kg of hilsa and nine kg of tilapia from two traffickers.
