The decision came after receiving double the amount of funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the GAVI Vaccine Alliance.

In 2021, the Serum Institute of India will produce 200 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine for poor countries, including India. The SII made the announcement on Tuesday after receiving double the amount of funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the GAVI Vaccine Alliance.

According to the company, the extra money will enable the Covid vaccine made by AstraZeneca and Novavax to be produced under the Covax project and supplied by early 2021.

An agreement reached between SII, the Gates Foundation and Gavi last August will produce a total of 100 million vaccine doses at a maximum price of 3. If necessary, the number of doses can be increased. So far, the project has received 300 million in funding.

The CoVAX project, jointly led by WHO and Gavie, aims to produce 200 million doses of vaccine by the end of 2021. More than 150 countries have participated in this project. However, the US and China did not join the CoVax project.
