Debashree Chattopadhyay, the first woman OC of Kolkata Police, died in a horrific accident

Debashree Chattopadhyay, the first woman OC of Kolkata Police, died in a road accident. He was currently the commanding officer of the 12th Battalion of the State Police. The accident took place at the morning time on Friday, on the day of lockdown on the Durgapur Expressway near Dadpur in Hughli. His driver and security guard were killed in the incident along with the police officer. The bodies have been sent to Imambara Hospital in Hughli for autopsy.

Witnesses claimed that the police vehicle was speeding along the Durgapur Expressway. At around 7:30 in the morning, the car came at high speed and hit a parked sand-laden lorry. Police and civic volunteers on the spot rescued police officer Debashree Chattopadhyay and his security guard Tapash Barman and driver Manoj Saha and took them to Imambara Hospital in Chunchura. Doctors declared Debashree Chatterjee dead. Hooghly Rural Police Superintendent Tathagata Basu went to the hospital.

It is learned that Debashree Chattopadhyay, former OC of North Port Police Station, was returning home from Dabgram in Siliguri on the same day. On his way back, this terrible accident happened near Dadpur. Hooghly Rural Police has started investigation for now. In addition to collecting samples, efforts are being made to know the statements of eyewitnesses.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted condolences over the tragic incident. He expressed his condolences to the families of the three deceased.
